RegTracker January - March 2025

Dear Reader,

Greetings!

We are pleased to present RegTracker, the regulation tracker of CIRC, for the first quarter of 2025 (January–March).

This edition brings you an in-depth analysis of the most significant regulatory developments that have shaped India’s regulatory landscape—both positively and negatively—over the past quarter.

A key theme of this tracker is India's ongoing commitment to economic liberalization, focusing on reducing protectionist measures while fostering competition. The RegTracker covers the aspects of the Union Budget 2025-26, ensuring that readers can see these aspects reflected.

It begins with an examination of India's energy, water, and transport sectors, including the imposition of an anti-dumping duty on Chinese materials to counter rising imports. Moving forward, we delve into recent regulatory shifts in wastewater management, real estate, and IT sectors that remain crucial for India’s long-term economic trajectory. Notably, the Infrastructure- Social, Urban and Green Infra, and IT sectors have witnessed strong regulatory initiatives aimed at taxing practices.

Despite intensifying competition from other emerging markets, India’s growth narrative remains strong, bolstered by anticipated policy improvements. This tracker also highlights the Indian government’s consideration of specialized data protection rules to regulate large technology firms—a move that could reshape the digital economy.

We hope you find these insights as engaging and thought-provoking as we did while compiling them.
